September- October 2005

Four alums chatted over two hours.

While in Las Vegas at the end of September, Steve Fellerman visited Barney Carville (74)  and learned that Barney may be moving to Memphis, where his classmate Earl is, as early as next year.  While reminiscing about the PI and "mementos," Earl wished he had kept his "courtesy card" from Gen. Roxas allowing Earl to carry a diving knife and speargun during martial law, as well as his Polo Club and Elks Club cards. Andy mentioned that his family has a samurai sword and a Japanese bathtub from the hasty evacuation of his occupied home during the end of the war.

In Vegas, Steve was playing seven-stud at Excalibur and beat 54-1 odds to win $200 on a "bad beat" consolation wheel...best full house he ever lost with!  Two days later, he spun the "bonus" wheel again for drawing a fourth 10 on the seventh card but only won a token $50.

Anna Duys isn't sure whether she'll make the 2006 Bahamas cruise but Steve and Andy hope to see her next weekend in Orlando for the micro-reunion.

Chatting this month were:

Steve Fellerman 70 Tallahassee, Florida
Earl Cocke 74 Memphis, Tennessee
Anna Duys 80 Miami, Florida
Esther Marcelino 72 Roseville, California
AISAAM Host:
Andy Butler 72 Hartland, Michigan

Summer (July-August) 2005

Seven alums chatted over two hours during a hot summer's night.  It was Moises Mina's first chat and he remained very shy despite some prodding to speak up.

Edina Brayton recently moved from Baltimore to Clarksville (Tennessee), a small city north of Nashville just a few miles from the Kentucky.

Freddy Gleeck is moving to a new home in Las Vegas and he can see it from the elevated Jacuzzi in his current home.  Steve Baldwin is closing on his home in Las Vegas sometime in September.  He now lives in Portland, where he works in driver design for the open source Linux operating system which is an alternative to Windows.  Steve Fellerman will be in Las Vegas in late September and if the timing works out he may be able to share some lechon and pancit with Freddy and Steve.

Jeff Brown reported that all's well in Toronto, where he's been doing some renovations to his home.

Rick Velayo was in the Philippines during the latter part of July.  He stayed at resorts in Cebu and Bohol and had time to visit with classmate Noelle Reyes and also Simon Malca (69) while in Manila.  Also, Phil Adamson hosted a BBQ at this home for Rick. Rick and Andy, who visits the PI regularly, agree that Manila and even Baguio are no longer desirable places to visit for more than a few days due to traffic and pollution.

Andy is planning a Christmas visit to the Philippines, just as he did last year when he visited for a few weeks. (Christmas break is one of the perks of being in the teaching field.)

Chatting this month were:

Freddy Gleeck 74 Las Vegas, Nevada
Edina Brayton 80 Clarksville, Tennessee
Moises Mina 71 (enquiring minds want to know)
Steve Fellerman 70 Tallahassee, Florida
Steve Baldwin 80 Portland, Oregon
Jeff Brown 84 Toronto, Canada
Rick Velayo 76 Redwood City, California
AISAAM Host:
Andy Butler 72 Hartland, Michigan

May - June 2005

Rob has returned to EDS, where he worked eight years ago, and assists mostly military agencies in the firm's Government Solutions group in Fort Worth.   Since he has family in both Florida  and the D.C. area, Rob hopes the next AISAAM reunion is in one of those locations.

Chatting this month were:

Rob White 78 Lewsville, Texas
AISAAM Guest Host:
Steve Fellerman 70 Tallahassee, Florida

April 2005

Andy Butler enjoyed a mini-reunion with classmate Dennis Mesina, who was visiting Detroit.  Dennis won two tickets to a Detroit Pistons basketball game and we were assured that neither Dennis nor Andy threw anything at the players!   Steve Fellerman mused that perhaps he should bring Pinoy basketball to the US and see if it will overtake wrestling as the choice of fans for violence-oriented sports....

Barney Carville will be in Panama City Beach, Florida next week for his annual "property inspection" visit and will visit with Steve Fellerman.  Steve will be Barney and Connie's tour guide for a visit to Havana, the region's antiques stores capital and where Steve just wrapped up a $700,000 grant for a downtown streetscaping project.

Chatting this month were:

Steve Fellerman 70 Tallahassee, Florida
Barney Carville 74 Las Vegas, Nevada
AISAAM Host:
Andy Butler 72 Hartland, Michigan

March 2005

With Spring Break in the air, and only Andy Butler going anywhere (Florida Keys) since he works in a school, this month's chat focused on future reunions.

The Manila Club is in the preliminary planning stages for an East Coast reunion in 2006.  A 2005 reunion is a possibility as well.  Keeping with Manila Club tradition, Columbus Day weekend is the target dates for both reunions.

Steve Fellerman sayanged that he won't be able to make any reunions this year, including his own class' 35th anniversary reunion cruise due to an extended peak work period.  His office has a special $100 million federal appropriation to distribute to the areas most affected by last year's four Florida hurricanes.

Since she lives very close to Port Canaveral, Therese Rounds was drafted to host a pre-cruise party for a future Bahamas reunion cruise leaving from that port, which is convenient to Orlando and other side excursion destinations.

Chatting this month were:

Steve Fellerman 70 Tallahassee, Florida
Jeff Phillips 74 San Ramon, California
Therese Rounds 75 Cocoa Beach, Florida
AISAAM Host:
Andy Butler 72 Hartland, Michigan  (chatting from New Jersey)

February 2005

Nine alums chatted for over 3 1/2 hours; seven were still enjoying chismis after the third hour and another five went past 3 1/2 hours.  The Class of '74 had a surprise  mini-reunion with four classmates coming to chat.

Tom Harvey is going to Manila and Singapore during the next Christmas season holidays.  His Singapore high school has a reunion and he's adding in Manila for old times' sake.  Rick Velayo advised that he'll be in Manila for two weeks this July.

Barney Carville enjoyed a mini-reunion with classmate Earl Cocke in Earl's hometown of Memphis while Barney was there on business for Harrah's Casino corporate offices.
Harrah's now owns the World Series of Poker rights, and Steve Fellerman proudly wears a limited edition WSOP cap and T-shirt Barney sent for pasalubong.)  Barney will be in Florida in April and Steve's planning a Vegas poker trip for late September.

Raul Herrera mentioned that thanks to classmate George Pezzino's "connections" (he works in Delta's Rome office) Raul flew back to DC from Rome last year in first class.

Jeff Phillips impressed everyone with the results of his new exercise regime....he's lost 46 pounds and four inches on his waist!  (At our age, a waist is a terrible thing to mind.)

Cess Abad has been in Atlanta for two years now and is taking real estate classes. Her husband's job managing a car dealership took the family there from California.  (AS alums shopping for a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicle should ask for the "AS alum tawad" deal! <g>)

Earle Cocke advised he's going to France in two weeks.  He'll spend time in Paris, Nantes, and Britagne, on the northwest coast where his uncle lives.

Andy Butler checked in from New Jersey, where he's visiting Sue Samara (71).  He was in NYC's Chinatown earlier in the day.  Fake Louis V. handbags in Chinatown are reportedly 6 times the price of the "genuine" ones at Manila's Green Hills "shops." <g>
